Theory of mind is the ability to understand that other people have their own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that differ from your own.

Perspective taking is the intentional effort to understand how another person may interpret, experience, or respond to a situation based on their own knowledge, history, beliefs, emotions, and circumstances. Perspective taking expands understanding without requiring agreement.
